Hutan Lipur Bukit Mertajam or commonly called Cheruk Tok Kun has an area of 37 hectares. It lies on hilly terrain with the highest point of 457 meters above sea level. There are numerous jungle tracks leading and branching toward the peak. A jeep road can take you to the summit where there are numerous telecommunication antennas.
There are several attractions including chalets, canteen, streams and pools at the base of the park.
Directions from Penang Bridge, the north and the south to Ceruk Tok Kun.
Pools are the main attraction for children during the weekend. On weekdays the place is relatively quite.
Workers were seen cleaning the pools before each weekend.
A tea kiosk modelled after the famous Tea Kiosk 84 of Penang Hill.
A hanging bridge was built in the park. Picture taken on August 2003.
And on October 2006, the hanging bridge had collapsed.
If you are lucky, you could see snakes. Picture taken of a juvenile Wagler's Pit-viper or Temple Viper. It is poisonous.
Other fauna includes this horned tree lizard. This male lizard was basking in the sun after a downpour.
There are many birds at the park. This little rufous-crowned babbler was seen hopping on the ground looking for worms and insects.
This huge nest of the stingless bees can be seen along the jungle trail.
There are several rest shelters on the jeep road. This one is midway up the hill.
This reservior supplies piped water to the nearby villages.
If you explore the area you could be surprised to see a signboard in the middle of no where. Nobody seems to use that part of the jungle trail. It is there for some unknown reason.
Malaysia Boleh! Empty signboard! I challenge you to find this signboard in the park. If you can find this signboard I will treat you to a teh tarik.
