PENANG HILL

Penang Hill is a popular highland recreational hideout for the British during the colonial era. Many bungalows were built at the top by the British and later by the afluent locals. Don't forgot to take photographs of heritage building at Penang Hill.

If you are going to Penang Hill by furnicular train then you should start from the Lower Station at Air Itam.

You can also hike up using jeep road from Waterfall Road at Botanic Gardens.

The furnicular train pulled by steel cables as seen at the viaduct.

The top station where you embark from the train.

As you walk out of the top station, you will notice this huge BUKIT BENDERA which meant Flag Hill. During the British occupation, flags were used to communicate with Fort Cornwallis.

On a fine day, you could see Georgetown from here.

There are many bungalows. The Railway Bungalow is the first bungalow you will see as you step out of the train.

This is interesting. VIII MILES – was marked on this stone indicating 8 miles to Georgetown.

You will keep seeing these bright orange colored flowers. They are the African Tulips.

It was presented by Pos Malaysia to the Penang Hill Residents’ Association in 2005. Similar post boxes are still in use in Malaysia.”
